Skilpod Doubles Its Framing Capacity for Modular Timber-Frame Home Construction

Skilpod, based in Geel, Belgium, specialises in building modular timber-frame homes. The company constructs fully functional homes in a factory environment, making the process exceptionally efficient and fast. “Our single crane was overloaded”

An Even Faster Production Process

Skilpod wanted to make its production process even smarter and more efficient. Marlo Kox, Operations Manager at Skilpod, explains:

“To further accelerate our production process, we needed an additional gantry crane. This would allow us to double our framing capacity.”

Overloaded Gantry Crane

Until recently, Skilpod operated in a production facility where only one gantry crane was available in the framing section. Marlo explains:

“The crane was overloaded and had become a bottleneck in our production process. The need for an additional gantry crane was becoming increasingly urgent.”

Comprehensive Assessment

After conducting a thorough assessment of potential solutions, Skilpod eventually turned to Mennens Belgium, as Marlo explains:

Challenges

One of the key requirements for this project was that the crane had to be wide enough to span both the framing tables and the panel storage area.

Marlo explains:

“At the same time, the gantry crane could not be too high, as the existing overhead crane still needed to be able to travel above it.”

Skilpod is very satisfied with the installation of its new crane. Marlo concludes:

“Everything went smoothly. Mennens completed the installation and inspection of the crane in just three days, without disrupting the continuity of our production process. Now that the additional crane is operational, our production process is running much more efficiently. A fantastic result.”
