Inspection and certification
At Mennens, we carry out inspections and certifications in accordance with EKH, NEN standards, and the Working Conditions Act (Arbowet) to ensure the safety, reliability, and legal compliance of work equipment.
Confidence in safety
Safety is the foundation when working with lifting equipment, fall protection, and climbing gear. At Mennens, we carry out inspections and certifications in accordance with EKH guidelines, NEN standards, and the Working Conditions Act (Arbowet).
As an employer, you are responsible for a safe working environment. A valid inspection certificate is more than just paperwork; it is proof of good employer practice. We not only safeguard the safety of your employees, but also ensure full legal compliance and maximum availability of your equipment.
Whether it concerns an annual visual inspection on site or an extensive test in our workshop, our certified inspectors are ready to support you.
Why professional inspection and certification?
Periodic inspection of your work equipment is not a choice, but a legal requirement (Working Conditions Act, Article 7.4a). However, proper maintenance offers more than just ticking a compliance box:
- Compliance with laws and regulations: Avoid fines and liability by demonstrably complying with standards such as NEN 818 and NEN 3140.
- Safety first: Protect your employees by identifying defects, hairline cracks, and wear at an early stage.
- Operational continuity: Prevent unexpected downtime and failures through proactive insight into the technical condition of your equipment.
- Extended lifespan: Timely maintenance and repairs help extend the lifespan of your equipment.
Inspection, certification, and testing: what’s the difference?
When checking lifting equipment, the terms inspection, certification, and testing are often used interchangeably. However, they do not mean the same thing. The difference mainly lies in the level of depth, legal requirements, and method.
What is an inspection
A visual check to determine whether lifting equipment is still safe and complies with applicable standards. For many types of lifting equipment, this is required at least once a year.
What is an examination
A thorough assessment in which the lifting equipment is evaluated against established standards and, if necessary, (partially) dismantled.
What is testing?
Part of a certification. The lifting equipment is tested under a load higher than its working load to verify its reliability.

Legally, this must be done at least once a year. In cases of intensive use or harsh conditions (such as offshore or chemical environments), more frequent inspections may be required.
The costs depend on the number of items, the type of equipment, and the location (on-site or at our facility). Because we work efficiently and can combine inspections, we always offer a cost-effective solution.
For on-site inspections, your equipment is often ready for use again immediately. In our workshop, we aim for a fast turnaround time to prevent disruption to your operations.
All your certificates are uploaded directly to our Mennens Certif portal, where you can view and download them 24/7.
