Electric winches
An electric winch is an electrically powered hoisting device that pulls or lifts loads via an electric motor and a drum fitted with steel wire rope. Electric winches are deployed where manual operation becomes too strenuous or fails to deliver sufficient speed — in factories, on construction sites, in shipping, and on heavy industrial installations. The WLL ranges from 150 kg for light applications up to 73,000 kg and beyond for the most demanding industrial and offshore projects.
Mennens supplies electric winches for professional industrial use. Our online range includes models up to 3,000 kg WLL; for heavier applications, we deliver as standard up to 73,000 kg WLL — higher capacities are available on request. As an EKH-certified inspection company, we also handle the complete inspection and certification of your electric winches.
Supply voltage — 230V and 400V
230V electric winches
Suitable for single-phase power supply, as commonly found in workshops, smaller production halls, and on construction sites with standard connections. Our 230V winches are available from 150 kg to 2,000 kg WLL.
400V electric winches (three-phase)
For heavier industrial applications requiring continuous use and higher pulling forces. 400V winches offer higher capacities and are better suited to intensive use in factories, warehouses, and offshore installations.
Pulling force and capacities
| Capacity class | Voltage | Typical application |
|---|---|---|
| 150–500 kg | 230V / 400V | Workshop, light industry |
| 500–2,000 kg | 230V / 400V | Construction, warehouse, installation engineering |
| 2,000–3,000 kg | 400V | Heavy industry, manufacturing |
| 3,000–73,000 kg | 400V | Offshore, petrochemicals, heavy construction |
| >73,000 kg | On request | Custom solutions for specific projects |
Electric winches for heavy industrial applications
Where standard winches fall short, Mennens delivers. Our standard supply programme for electric winches extends up to 73,000 kg WLL — a capacity class most suppliers cannot offer as standard. For projects with even more demanding requirements regarding pulling force, design, or certification, we deliver custom-built solutions.
Application areas for heavy electric winches:
- Offshore and maritime: Anchor and mooring winches, deck winches for heavy loads
- Petrochemicals and process industry: Moving reactor vessels, heat exchangers, and heavy installation components
- Shipbuilding and ship repair: Positioning ship sections and heavy structures
- Heavy construction and civil engineering: Hoisting precast concrete elements and steel structures

Applications of electric winches
Electric winches are deployed across a wide range of sectors:
- Industry and manufacturing: Moving machinery, moulds, and heavy production components
- Building and construction: Hoisting building materials, steel structures, and precast elements
- Shipping and inland navigation: Loading, unloading, and warping on board
- Warehousing and logistics: Efficient handling of heavy goods in storage
- Events and stage technology: Stage assembly and moving heavy equipment
Inspection and certification of electric winches
Electric winches deployed as lifting equipment are subject to mandatory periodic inspection in accordance with occupational health and safety legislation. As a rule, the winch manufacturer specifies the minimum inspection and review intervals in the user manual. These instructions are always leading. If no instructions are available, the inspection frequency depends heavily on the intensity of use and the operating environment, but in any case must take place at least once a year. Mennens is an EKH-certified inspection company and provides:
- European standards for power-driven winches EN 14492-1
- Visual and technical inspection in accordance with EN 14492-2
- Electrical inspection of drive system and controls
- Inspections and load tests
- Inspection reporting and certification
- Repair and replacement of rejected components
