Test & Repair

Sometimes a visual check is not enough. For complex repairs, overhauls, and heavy testing, Mennens has specialized workshops and unique test facilities.

In-depth inspection and overhaul

Assurance of safety, maximum uptime, and full compliance with EKH standards—that’s our standard. Whether it’s testing heavy steel wire ropes for offshore use or overhauling hydraulic tools, we ensure your equipment remains safe and operational.

Why professional testing and repair?

As a Mechanical Engineer or Safety Coordinator, you know that downtime costs money and accidents are unacceptable. Test & Repair at Mennens is more than just ticking a box; it is a technical process of load testing and NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) to guarantee the integrity of your equipment.

  • Cost-effective: Overhaul is often more economical than replacement, especially for heavy equipment.
  • Assurance: By testing above the Working Load Limit (WLL), you prove the physical strength.
  • Sustainability: Extend the lifespan of your assets (circularity).

Our test & repair facilities

Mennens has unique facilities in the Benelux. We don’t just test for functionality—we push materials to their limits to uncover hidden defects.

  • Tensile test benches: We test lifting equipment at working load and breaking force. Our test bench in Dongen has the largest capacity in the Benelux (14,000 kN).
  • NDT (Non-Destructive Testing): We look beneath the surface of materials. Using techniques such as Magnetic Testing (MT) and Penetrant Testing (PT), we detect hairline cracks and material fatigue without damaging the product.
  • Magnetic Rope Testing (MRT): An ‘MRI scan’ for steel wire ropes. In accordance with ISO 4309, we detect internal wire breaks and corrosion within the core of the rope—issues that remain invisible during visual inspection.
  • Mennens Laboratory: For specialized cases, we carry out in-depth material analysis and failure investigations (Root Cause Analysis) in Dongen.
  • Rope Watcher: Prevention 2.0. Continuous monitoring of steel wire ropes in operation to detect wear at an early stage using sensors.

What do we repair and overhaul?

Our EKH-certified technicians are qualified to work on a wide range of equipment used in industry, offshore, construction, and logistics:

Lifting equipment chain slings, shackles, clamps (both below and above the hook)
Steel wire rope for cranes, elevators, and heavy offshore applications
Hydraulics high-pressure tools such as jacks and pumps
Falling protection

inspection and repair of harnesses, fall arrest blocks, and rescue kits

This is how the process works: from intake to certification

Intake & transport

You deliver the equipment to one of our five locations, or we arrange transport through our own logistics service.

Diagnostics & quotation

We carry out a visual inspection and measurements. In case of defects, you will receive a clear quotation: repair or replace?

Repair & overhaul

After approval, our technicians repair the equipment. Worn parts are replaced and structures are restored.

Proof load testing

After repair, the equipment is often re-tested on the tensile test bench to ensure its strength.

Certification

The equipment receives a new inspection sticker, and the certificate is uploaded to Mennens Certif.

Frequently Asked Questions

According to EKH guidelines, load testing is often carried out after major repairs, when commissioning new lifting installations, or at fixed intervals (for example, every 4 years for cranes).

Not always. For smaller items (such as standard lifting slings), replacement is often more cost-effective. However, for heavy chain assemblies, hoists, or specialized equipment, overhaul is often a fraction of the cost of new. We provide honest advice on this during the quotation phase.

Thanks to our five locations and large stock of parts, we aim for minimal turnaround times. For standard inspections, your equipment is often returned within a few working days. Urgent request? Let us know during intake.

Yes. Each approved item receives an inspection sticker and an official certificate (including a test graph for tensile tests). This is available 24/7 through our online portal.
