Everything you need to know about working safely in confined spaces
Safely entering a “confined space”, carrying out work there and then leaving the space unharmed and healthy requires knowledge and awareness. Because there are numerous risks.
How do you prevent the risk of falling?
- Do you know how to prevent entrapment and what to do if someone becomes unwell in a confined space?
- Are you aware that (fatal) gas poisoning unfortunately occurs?
- Do you know when to use which personal protective equipment (PPE)?
- Do you know exactly when which rules apply?
Why is this afternoon interesting for you?
This introductory afternoon is for safety experts. We will first discuss what constitutes a confined space. You will be introduced to the latest personal protective equipment (including anchor points, winches, fall arrest blocks, respiratory protection and gas meters) and learn about their advantages and disadvantages. You will discuss cases and scenarios with experienced trainers and other safety experts and learn the ins and outs of the current regulations.
At the same time, DVK-on-tour is the perfect opportunity to catch up with colleagues and exchange experiences.
Get up to speed
Dirk van Blijswijk, an expert in working in confined spaces, looks ahead to the DVK information afternoon. "Many risks, such as toxic gases or a lack of sufficient oxygen, are invisible. You can lose consciousness within seconds,‘ he warns. In addition, some spaces are incorrectly classified as “confined”, resulting in essential measures being overlooked. Furthermore, often no or incorrect materials are used for entering and exiting. ’Using the right equipment correctly makes the difference between working safely and unsafely. We will tell you all about it on 22 May."
Programme
We will start with the theory of working in confined spaces: where can you find the rules and regulations and how do you ensure that you don't overlook anything? After this, we will visit the Safe Site Expertise Centre - Powered by Mennens. In a simulated environment, you will put the theory into practice while using the appropriate PPE.
