DVK On Tour: safety experts experience safe working at height in practice

Theory with interaction

The afternoon begins in the classroom. Dirk's presentation is visual, interactive and full of recognisable practical examples. Seeing fall protection equipment and receiving explanations makes the theory more tangible and makes it easier to make the link to one's own practice.

When questions arise from the audience, Dirk responds immediately. Participants share practical examples, sometimes hilarious, sometimes confrontational. But always educational. Dirk listens, engages and connects the stories with the theory. Sometimes that means deviating from the slides – but that often yields the most valuable insights.

Then it's time for a cup of coffee. Recharge your batteries while enjoying the view of the impressive Safe Site training centre powered by Mennens, where the training will take place later. This is also a great opportunity to exchange experiences with other safety experts.

Time for some practical training – off to the training location!

After the theory, it's time for action. The enormous training location of Safe Site powered by Mennens – with almost 1,000 square metres of height, climbing and descent facilities – invites you to experience everything for yourself. The range of fall protection equipment here is enormous. Different situations call for different solutions – and today we can look at, hold and test them all.

Various instructors are on hand to explain the equipment, each with their own area of expertise. From fall lines to anchoring systems, everything is covered. Here, a participant tries out the “rope moped”, a battery-powered climbing aid that allows you to move up quickly and safely. It sounds futuristic, but it turns out to be surprisingly user-friendly.

One of the highlights: an emergency descent/evacuation. Not only spectacular, but also a perfect way to experience how the equipment works in real life and how it hangs in a harness. Safe, controlled and supervised.

This afternoon was a powerful example of how theory and practice reinforce each other. With clear explanations, lots of interaction and an impressive practical location, as a safety expert you can not only broaden your knowledge, but also really experience what working safely at height entails.
