The right laws and regulations

Inspecting steel wire ropes is a legal obligation stated in the machinery directives. In addition to a daily check, an inspection is required at least once a year. Mennens happily takes care off this worry. Our inspectors are VCA and EKH certified, inspect according to the ISO 4309 and/or NEN 3233 and are continuously trained.

Mennens is recognized by the Association of Recognized Inspection Companies for Lifting Equipment (EKH).

The EKH:

  • draws up strict work regulations and inspection schedules based on, among others, NEN-EN, ISO and machinery directives.
  • provides training and certifies inspectors
  • lets itself be certified by an independent inspection institute (D.N.V.)

Certified inspectors

All our inspectors are VCA certified and work according to EKH regulations. Mennens is randomly checked by this branch organization.

What does a steel wire rope inspection entail?

During the inspection, our inspector checks the steel wire rope on various points. We do this according to the applicable standards. We check the steel wire rope on:

  • diameter
  • wear
  • corrosion
  • Rope lay length
  • deformation
  • broken wires
  • the state of the sheaves and drums
  • external influences (damage)

Please note: a steel wire rope inspection is always visual and captures a snapshot. An inspection therefore says something about the condition of the steel wire rope at that moment. Of course, it’s important to constantly remain alert of the condition of the wire rope, even after the inspection (this is also an obligation from the machinery directive).

Inspection report

After inspection, you will receive an extensive inspection report. This report documents the checks on the above-mentioned points and the condition of your steel wire rope at that time. In case of deviations, we are more than happy to advise you on how to proceed.
